Hello mates! London is busy.. I've seen quite eclectic people here thus far.. But alas no Wills and/or Kate. Where are they? Every cattail cruiser couple arrived safely. After meeting our driver at the airport, Ken & I arrived at Chancery Court Hotel at 7 am. Too early to check in, we set out to explore London. We walked and walked and ended up at an Italian restaurant, frankies for lunch! After lunch, we made our way back to the hotel and checked in. It was time to catch a few zzz's before meeting our friends for dinner. At 6:30 pm, we met in the hotel lobby and headed off to london's china town. For some reason, our favorite dim sum restaurant, the new world, was closed... So the group voted and we were seated at the crispy duck restaurant! It seemed to be a tiny place, but upon entering, we were escorted up 2 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor dining room. Following dinner, it was time for some fun photos...all of us in one of the iconic red phone booths, under the china town gate, outside of popular pubs, and such. And...then it was time for our first full night of sleep!
After breakfast at a French cafe, ken and I headed for a Boots pharmacy to purchase shampoo, toiletries, etc that would have weighted down our luggage! Then it was off to Oxford and Bond streets...we did not do any tours or such since we have been here many times... But some of the group were planning to do so.
This evening we are all meeting in the hotel bar, followed by dinner at Ship's Tavern for British fare. This will be topped of by seeing Jersey Boys in the West End... To be followed by who knows what!
Our Princess transport will take us to the ship at noon tomorrow, Saturday...where we will begin our 12 night British isles cruise.
The weather has been perfect thus far..no rain and 70 degree temps!
A few of my reflections thus far:
1) shoes worn by women are flats or boots...some are brightly colored, even decorated with feathers. Attire is skinny jeans and tights...for non-Muslim women.. London is very internationally eclectic with many Muslims, Indians, and so forth so you see all sorts of attire!
2) Londoners spend money and shop! Shops, streets, pubs and restaurants are mobbed. I can't keep up with them.
3) I wonder why we use our right hand for eating and they just spear the food with their left?
4) neighborhood pubs are alive and doing well.
5) the Tube system is clean and efficient... Even I can navigate it without getting lost!!!
More reflections to come later...
Ok, that's it for now.. Stay tuned..
