Bernkastel,
Germany: July 22
Overnight we
were greeted by a gorgeous view of Landshut Castle, a medieval fortress that
dates from the 7th century.
We had a 9 am included tour of Bernkastel so we had an early breakfast and joined our tour group pierside. Bernkastel is a beautiful town on the banks of the Moselle River. This region is a wine paradise. We passed numerous slopeside vineyards on our cruise from Trier to Bernkastel, which produce some of the finest Riesling grapes in the world.
Our guide was again excellent and we stayed with him for the duration of the walking tour as we had ample time following the tour to explore independently. The Marktplatz was beautiful; the buildings looked like gingerbread houses!
I loved this one--- note the name on the signage!
I loved the door to the hill top wine cellar... Doctor Wine!
The sidewalk cafes and flower displays were beautiful!
Isn't this one adorable?
Following our tour, I peeked into a couple of shoe stores (I’m a real shoe diva!) but came away empty handed. Once we had explored to our hearts’ content, we headed back to our home away from home, the Poetry II. As this was a wine cruise, another included feature was a Mosel Wine Tasting tour; as this was scheduled for 4:45 pm and I didn’t really want to be drinking wine prior to our food & wine pairing dinner, we opted out of this one. Those that went said that it was quite good and included all the wine one could ever drink! In other words, it wasn’t just a little taste, it was all you could drink.

The food &
wine pairing dinner was excellent and was hosted by wine maker, Mr. Matthew
Stubbs. Following dinner we danced in
the lounge with a local musical group.
We had a ball and got everyone up to dance!
