Trier, Germany: July 21
Prior to our arrival in Trier, we cruised the Moselle which afforded some gorgeous scenery. From my open air balcony/suite I snapped some great photos!
We met in the ship’s lobby to meet for our 8:30 am walking tour of Trier. We were docked at Grevenmacher, so we boarded a bus to take us to Trier’s city center. Our tour guide was excellent… she knew the history of the area and related it in an informative & often humorous dialogue. We entered the city through the Porta Nigra, the Roman gate that was constructed in the 2nd century. In fact, Trier was a favorite residence of Emperor Constantine the Great from 306 to 324 BC.
They even have decorative manhole covers in Trier!
Because I wanted to investigate a bit on my own, we left the walking tour to snap some photos and sneak a peek into some of the shops. Being the shopper that I am, I spotted some polka dot leggings and a cute “3 girls” shirt that jumped right into my arms! At the bargain price of 5Euros each, I did well! We were back onboard Poetry II for lunch and our sail away, heading to Bernkastel.
